Happy Jubilee Watching, Yanks! :)
hey friends! if you have a twitter account and a couple of seconds, can you please do me a favor? orlando, florida is in the running to win an epic diamond jubilee street party from virgin airlines! i live within driving distance of orlando, and let me tell you, it would be one massive party if we won. orlando hosts a guy fawkes bonfire night each year, and last year’s event had nearly 3,000 expats & anglophiles in attendance!
so, if you can do it before midnight, i’d really appreciate it if you’d tweet @VirginAtlantic with the hashtag #RoyalTreatment and tell them you want them to pick orlando. if orlando gets the party i will definitely be going, and you can expect lots of photos! the contest ends at midnight tonight. thanks in advance!! :)
Anglophile Problem #51 was: You can’t buy from the UK iTunes store without a UK billing address.
Anyone want to help provide an “anglophile solution”?
So far, the solutions I’ve found are 1) rip songs from youtube 2) pirate 3) use 7digital. Has anyone else found other ways to get around this problem?

anxiously awaiting solutions to this problem! have any of my followers found a way around this?
UK Elections… for Americans.
this is a couple of years old so the info about the “current” election is outdated, but it’s very informative and helpful in understanding the general election & political process!

when i picture london, it’s nearly always in the rain, though both times i’ve been i don’t think it’s rained at all. but somehow it just seems fitting :)
It’s like saying you’re a Japanophile even though you only watch Naruto and Bleach and played a few J-video games. You have to go beyond those things. They are entry gateways to the British culture. If you really want to be an Anglophile, love the UK for more than just three series you fangirl over. Watch more British series, start getting into British films, read classical and modern British literature. This isn’t being elitist. I am just saying you should truly get into the culture/history of the UK and not just the pop-culture in order to give yourself the banner of Anglophile.
*props to you, anon*THIS. There’s the literature, politics, overall culture, music, radio, classic TV series. So many things to love.
agreed. and i’d like to point out that there is NOTHING wrong with being a part of any of those fandoms…they are a great introduction to what makes britain great! just recognise that there is a lot more to be discovered :) go forth and expand your horizons!
British Embassy Open House Day
On Saturday, May 12, European Embassies throughout Washington DC will open their doors for the EU’s Open House Day.
Starting at 10:00 am, the British Embassy will host an interactive and family-friendly bazaar celebrating UK sport, culture, and tradition. 2012 is an exciting year for Great Britain with the Olympic and Paralympics Games and the celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. With the theme “This is GREAT Britain”, the Embassy will showcase the GREAT aspects of an innovative and dynamic UK and the unparalleled partnership we share with the people of the United States.
Highlights include:
- Activities for families include face painting, learning how to play soccer; cricket; and golf, making a tiara, and writing congratulatory messages to Her Majesty the Queen for her Diamond Jubilee.
- Enjoy traditional British food, drink and music, with whisky tastings by Macallan and fare from Union Jack’s Pub – plus hear ‘God Save the Queen’ performed by the British School children and interact with Shakespearian players.
- Tour the Ambassador’s Residence’s symmetrical garden with its double stairs and paths leading to the rose garden and lawns, which are surrounded by trees, several of which were planted by members of the Royal Family.
- Hear about the best in British business by meeting our sponsors and hearing about their organisations.
- Early visitors will receive a free and eco-friendly British Embassy tote bag and enter for a chance to win a trip to Northern Ireland.

Anonymous asked: I really don't understand the problem people have with the anglophile phenomenon. I'm British and I think it's incredibly flattering that so many people around the world want to celebrate what they see as positive aspects of our culture and way of life, both past and present. We're all keenly aware of the faults in our own countries; seeing people from abroad really love and adore the positives of one's own country can be really heartening.

bless you, anon! you have no idea how refreshing it is to hear you say that :) i know there are more brits like you who feel the same way, but it’s easy to forget that when the prevailing opinion on tumblr seems to be that we’re a stupid, annoying lot. thanks for writing!! cheers, laura xx
posting your hate in the anglophile tag.
reblogging myself because there is a lot of flaming, angry hate in that tag right now and i know i shouldn’t let it bother me, but really, people? why is that necessary?
i think i might just stop tracking it for a while. maybe even for good. it’s more frustrating than enjoyable or useful at the moment.

Dear London,
I know we’re miles apart and we’ve only met a few times, but I thought it was time I finally told you after all these years….
I am madly, deeply, crazy in love with you.
I think about you every day and I count the weeks until we can meet again. I love your character, your history, the way you talk, and how classy and sophisticated yet fun and whimsical you always manage to be.
Sometimes, when I miss you really horribly, I go on to the airline websites and I see how much it would cost to come and visit for a while. It’s too much right now, but some day I’ll come to stay. For a long, long time…I promise!
For now, I guess we’ll just have to wait. I know long distance relationships are rough but somehow I think we’ll manage….it’s been what, 15 years that this love affair’s been going on already? I think I can make it a few more. Promise to wait for me?
Yours truly and forever,
- That same little girl who saw London for the first time and never looked back
