Princess Beatrice attends the Maundy Thursday Service at on April 5, 2012 in York, England. Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Beatrice are visiting York today as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

lovely! princess beatrice isn’t exactly known for a great sense of style (royal wedding hat disaster, anyone?), so it’s refreshing to see her looking chic and put-together. very classy.

Came across this amongst various things at my Granny’s today. Sent by my Grandfather’s brother home, presumably in 1937 the coronation year of George VI.

i hate to post stuff from the daily fail, but this seems to be pretty legitimate and i can’t seem to find it being talked about anywhere more reputable. i heard this being discussed on bbc radio 2 this morning and thought it was very interesting. hovis, a british bakery, recently conducted a survey asking people what makes them most proud to be british. the top three answers?

  1. the countryside
  2. the british sense of humour
  3. the royal family

you can check out the article for the full list of results with percentages. if you asked me what i love most about britain, i would find it very hard to narrow things down, but i think those 3 things would probably rank pretty highly with me!

Today, as I mark 60 years as your Queen, I am writing to thank you for the wonderful support and encouragement that you have given to me and Prince Philip over these years and to tell you how deeply moved we have been to receive so many kind messages about the Diamond Jubilee. As I dedicate myself anew to your service, I hope we all be reminded of the power of togetherness and the convening strength of family, friendship and good neighbourliness, examples of which I have been fortunate to see throughout my reign and which my family and I look forward to seeing in many forms as we travel throughout the United Kingdom and the wider Commonwealth.
